Writing Your Way Back: Transform Pain into Power through Poetry

Event Description

We’re each here for a purpose. We come with a set of skills and an agenda to get all we can out of life – only to be held back by our limiting thoughts and beliefs. If only we could get ourselves together in that one area, our lives would work!

And so we strive – to fill in what’s missing… to meet the right guy/girl, get the perfect job, get healthy, make money, figure out our life purpose… Our lives become about getting that thing we don’t have… so we can feel fulfilled.

Our life reflects this need- because what we don’t have steers our decisions more than what we do have. The negative space (what is lacking) dictates the positive (what is there) and then we judge ourselves for this “waste of life,” and unenlightened way to live.

But what if we’ve got it all wrong? What if our needs or what’s not there was placed there for a reason — so that we can acquire not only that missing piece, but a whole other level of power as well!

In this 90-minute webinar, you will receive tools to dialogue with these voids and turn them into art.

Diane is the founder and Executive Director of Get Lit-Words Ignite, which is the leading teen literacy program in Southern California. Get Lit reaches over 20,000 teens each year and Diane trains teachers throughout the country. She was recently featured on PBS “Arts & The Mind” and has been invited to the White House.

She was a Speak, Write & Promote: Movers & Shakers Conference attendee and winner of their Hay House competition. She is also the proud mom of two wonderful children ages eight and twelve.

Special guests include 4 members of the Get Lit Players (an award winning classic teen poetry troupe): Junior Herrera, Adrian Kljucec, Marquesha Babers, and Maia Mayor.

During this 90 minute event you will:
*Receive 2 short meditations
*Hear performances and perspectives from our teen poets
*Receive 2 writing prompts
*Receive feedback on your writing
*Be empowered to use poetry prompts to explore previously unexpressed emotions and then turn them into ART!

It is never too early or too late for us to assemble the disconnected pieces of ourselves and live the lives we’ve been called to.

Re-member your power through POETRY!
